It has been a productive May in Berkeley Park, and June is looking to be just as exciting. The Beautification Committee headed by Elizabeth Sears coordinated our May Clean Up Day, where many Berkeley Park residents came together to spruce up the areas around our BPNA entrance signs, mulch the Trees Atlanta trees, clear the weeds and cut the grass along the Howell Mill sidewalks and as you may have heard, cleaned up Fire Station 23. The Fire Station clean up received notice from the City, Atlanta Fire Rescue and the press, and moving forward, should be properly maintained by the City. The Seniors Committee headed by Tawn Chi was extremely successful in their Annual Spring Senior Dinner, where residents volunteered to cook and deliver 23 Meals to area seniors. This is always such a rewarding and much appreciated event. Thanks to Tawn and all of the volunteers for making this happen! The May BPNA meeting had a huge attendance. The focus was crime prevention, and Inspector Dorsey from the Atlanta Police Department came in to discuss things that we can do to help discourage criminals. The inspector left us with some literature and an open invitation to work with our residents on personal safety and the development of the BPNA Crime Watch Committee. Lastly, we were successful removing the pit bulls from 806 Bellemeade, which have been escaping their backyard and terrorizing the neighborhood for 4 years. This was only possible with the combined efforts of many of our involved residents.
You may notice a common theme in our ability to get things done in May, and that's volunteers. See the next page for opportunities to get involved.
As I mentioned above, June will be equally exciting in Berkeley Park. I hope you all join us June 14th for the 3rd Annual Berkeley Park Chili Cook Off. This year, all donations received will go toward the Berkeley Park Crime Prevention Program. We will have representatives from the Atlanta Police and Fire Departments, Atlanta City Council, food by Chef Ron, music from some great local bands, and games for the children. Please look for the details on page 1.
Have a great Summer and remember to keep your eyes open. Let your neighbors know when you go on vacation, keep TVs, radios and lights on when not home, and be safe.
